Our Kindergarten
Program

A positive start to school can make all the difference. Kindergarten at Prodigy Center for Education, ReThink Microschools’ elementary program, helps children feel comfortable, build confidence, and discover the joy of learning in a small, supportive environment.

Students develop early reading, writing, and math skills through explicit instruction, hands-on activities, stories, and purposeful play. Learning is tailored to each child’s readiness, with opportunities to practice new skills, explore interests, and celebrate progress.

Predictable routines and caring relationships help students become comfortable with classroom life. Children practice communicating their needs, taking turns, building friendships, and becoming more independent.

Our goal is simple: help your child feel a sense of belonging while building a strong foundation for the years ahead.

Kindergarten Focus

  • Early Reading: Recognizing letters, connecting letters and sounds, blending sounds, and exploring stories.

  • Beginning Writing: Developing pencil control, forming letters, and sharing ideas through pictures, words, and simple sentences.

  • Foundational Mathematics: Counting, comparing quantities, recognizing patterns and shapes, and exploring addition and subtraction with objects.

  • Science & Discovery: Asking questions, observing nature, and investigating through hands-on exploration.

  • Social Development & Independence: Practicing classroom routines, expressing needs, taking turns, and learning alongside others.

Why the Science
of Reading?

Strong reading foundations begin with clear, step-by-step teaching. Our approach helps children understand how sounds and letters work together, with instruction matched to their developing skills.

  • Build awareness of the sounds in spoken words.

  • Teach letter–sound connections explicitly.

  • Practice blending sounds to read simple words.

  • Develop vocabulary through conversation and shared reading.

  • Build understanding through questions, pictures, and storytelling.

What is the Science
of Reading?

The science of reading is a body of research about how children learn to read and how instruction can support them. In kindergarten, this means building skills in five connected areas:

  • Phonemic Awareness: Hearing and working with individual sounds in words.

  • Phonics: Connecting letters with sounds.

  • Fluency: Developing accuracy and ease with familiar words and simple text.

  • Vocabulary: Learning words and their meanings.

  • Comprehension: Understanding and discussing stories and information.
